A Taste of La Union, One Grape at a Time
A Taste of La Union, One Grape at a Time
When my husband first told me there was a grape vineyard in La Union, my reaction was simply, “Ah, okay.” I honestly thought it was just a small family backyard with a few grapevines. I never imagined that La Union would have an actual vineyard, so I did not pay much attention to it at the time.
During our sightseeing trip to La Union, I noticed several people holding signs that said “Grape Picking Experience.” That immediately caught my attention. Curious, I asked my husband if we could stop by on our way back to Manila since it was conveniently along our route. He just smiled and said, “I told you about this before, but you weren’t interested. Looking back, I have to admit that I simply was not familiar with the idea of a grape vineyard in La Union.
Our experience
Visiting the vineyard turned out to be a wonderful experience and is definitely worth adding to your itinerary if you are in the area.
A local guide led the way on his motorcycle while we followed behind. There was no entrance fee or guide fee to enter the farm. Visitors only pay for whatever they choose to purchase, and while tips are not required, they are highly appreciated by the guides.
The experience itself was enjoyable and memorable. Guests can sample free grape juice made from the farm’s local products and browse a variety of local delicacies such as tupig, jams, and many other treats. Of course, the highlight was walking through the vineyard and picking fresh grapes straight from the vines.
Of all the places we visited during our La Union trip, the grape vineyard was one of my favorites. Not only do you get to see the vineyard and enjoy grape picking, but you also have the opportunity to interact with the friendly locals of La Union and learn more about their livelihood and products.
So if you are looking for a unique experience and have already tried strawberry picking in Baguio, you might want to add grape picking in La Union to your travel bucket list.
It is a fun, relaxing, and surprisingly delightful activity that offers a different side of La Union beyond its famous beaches and surfing spots.
